Fashion becomes a language of survival for Jewel Kaye, the multidisciplinary creative behind Wijnruit. Through his London-based label, Kaye transforms pain into beauty, merging myth and material in a story of metamorphosis and rebirth.
“I was obsessed with danger,” he recalls. “Then the crash came, and my back broke, and suddenly I was forced to stop. That moment felt like dying and being remade.” From that rupture, Wijnruit: An Exploration of Archetypes emerged, a collection born from experience rather than concept.

The SS26 collection feels both fierce and intimate. Industrial seams collide with delicate silks; rigid forms pulse with bursts of color and softness. Each one-of-one piece, handmade in London, carries its own story of reconstruction. “I never try to balance the hard and the soft,” he says. “I let them argue until they complement each other. They’re both necessary.”
Moreover, myth and memory weave through every stitch. Figures like Orpheus, NeZha, and Icarus inspire Kaye’s understanding of transformation, not as tragedy but as renewal. His years in New York built discipline and structure. “New York gave me the skeleton,” he says. “London gave me the skin and pulse.” Together, these cities shaped the duality that defines Wijnruit: structured yet emotional, refined yet reckless.

Accidents also play a crucial role in his process. For instance, a collar cut too short stood upright like armor, while a fabric from a lookbook backdrop transformed into a shirt. “Those little miscalculations remind me that control isn’t creation,” Kaye reflects. As a result, spontaneity often leads his best ideas.
Meanwhile, the story of Wijnruit extends beyond garments. The models who wear his clothes are close friends who have shared his journey. “When they wear the clothes, it feels like memory being performed,” he says. Each presentation becomes a living autobiography, turning private emotion into collective experience.
Kaye also rejects rigid systems, choosing mentorships and intuition over institutions. “Creativity dies inside systems that feel like ticking boxes,” he says. Instead, his education came through experimentation and collaboration. Therefore, his work feels alive, untamed, responsive, and deeply personal.
As Wijnruit continues to evolve, Kaye follows instinct rather than strategy. “It’s unpredictable, like walking through a forest at night,” he says. “You can’t see the path, but you trust you’ll end up in the right place.”
Ultimately, metamorphosis isn’t a theme for Kaye, it’s a way of living. Through Wijnruit, he redefines fashion as a process of breaking, remaking, and breathing again. In every stitch lies evidence of survival; in every silhouette, the quiet roar of rebirth.
